A Greensboro company that provides non-emergency medical transportation is being investigated over allegations of Medicaid fraud. The federal government has seized close to $5 million from accounts associated with Gate City Transportation and owner Roderick Jessup.

The government alleges Gate City Transportation billed Medicaid more than $19 million over four years for ambulance services when, in fact, the company had no ambulances, and merely provided transportation in vans.

The News and Record of Greensboro reports the company is also accused of coding claims as though basic life support services were conducted, although those services were not offered.

About a half-dozen agencies are investigating Gate City Transportation Inc. and its owner, Roderick Jessup, for its finances.

The IRS also has seized a number of vehicles from the company, including more than two dozen vans.
