Greensboro City Leader Takes Federal Post

President Barack Obama has tapped Greensboro's city manager for a federal post.

Denise Turner Roth will be the deputy administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

“GSA is one of the few federal agencies to touch almost every part of the United States government. They manage about 9,600 assets across the country," explains Roth. "I just look forward to the role and working with our federal agency partners to help them streamline their service delivery.”

Since 2008, Roth has worked for the city of Greensboro. She became city manager in 2011. She also says she feels the city is slowly getting stronger.

“We have a AAA bond rating. But our expenses continue exceeding our income, so we have to look at places where we can generate revenue as well as reduce expenses," says Roth. She added, "Meanwhile, as a community as a whole we do see people moving into the city on a regular basis. Our downtown is active and vibrant."

Roth will step into her new federal post on February 3. Deputy City Manager Jim Westmoreland will serve as interim city manager beginning February 1.
