Greensboro councilman Zack Matheny is running for North Carolina's 6th District seat.
Zack Matheny says he wants to be a U.S. Congressman because he loves serving others. He also wants to be a stronger voice representing North Carolina in our nation's capitol. The 40-year-old Republican says one of his top priorities is to help create a better health insurance system. “We need to have something that is stable and sustainable so states don't want to get out while doing what is in the best interest of all of our citizens," explains Matheny. When asked about changes he'd like to make to the current health care law, he says he wants people to be able to "increase the amount that can be put in your health savings account so you can put more money away and be protected.”
Matheny currently serves on the Greensboro City Council, representing District 3. Also throwing their hat in the ring--Rockingham County District Attorney Phil Berger Jr., Jamestown-area pastor Rev. Dan Collison, Lawndale Baptist Church associate pastor Rev. Mark Walker and High Point financial adviser Don Webb. They are all Republicans. Laura Field is the only Democratic candidate. The primary will be May 6, 2014. The general election is in November.
U.S. Representative Howard Coble has held this seat for 15 terms. The 82-year-old Republican is retiring at the end of this term because of health problems.
