Greensboro Fire Chief Retiring, Takes State Job

Greensboro's fire chief is leaving his post. Chief Greg Grayson says he is retiring and will take a job with the North Carolina state fire marshal's office.

Grayson has led Greensboro's fire department for the past six years. Before that, he served as the fire and rescue chief in Asheville.

In a statement released Friday, he highlighted some of the department's accomplishments during his tenure, including the opening of four new stations, replacing outdated equipment and maintaining Greensboro's position in the top five percent of insurance ratings in the nation.    

City officials say his last day will be June 30. They have yet to name an interim leader.
