A lockdown at North Carolina A&T State University has been lifted after a search failed to find any sign of a reported gunman.
Campus police chief Glenn Newell issued the "all clear" shortly before 1 p.m. Classes are set to resume at 2 p.m. Police say at around 10 a.m. Monday, there was a report of an unknown man carrying a rifle on campus.
Police evacuated the General Classroom, along with Crosby, Barnes and Merrick Halls to conduct a sweep of those areas. They also cleared the outside Quad area as a precaution. Classes were canceled through 2:00 p.m.
Greensboro police also assisted in the search for a possible suspect. North Carolina A&T State University has more than 12,000 students.
