Guilford Technical Community College will host its annual spring job fair Wednesday.

Dan Grigg is a career advisor for GTCC. He says even though many companies hire through their Web sites, the job fair offers a chance to make a face-to-face impression.

The annual GTCC job fair dates back to at least the 1990s. But it is subject to the same ups and downs in the economy that workers face. Four years ago, organizers canceled the job fair because there weren't enough companies looking to hire. As the local economy has improved, so have the numbers at the job fair. Two years ago, about 2,700 job seekers attended. Last year, the number jumped to more than 3,200. And Grigg said interest from employers is also booming.

Grigg says job seekers should arrive early, dress professionally, bring plenty of resumes and prepare to give a 30-second pitch about why a company should hire you. He says there will be companies looking to fill a wide range of positions.

The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Medlin Campus Center on GTCC's Jamestown Campus. It is free and open to all job seekers. A list of companies attending and their job needs can be found here.
