NC Religious-exemption Gay Marriage Bill Now Law
A measure allowing some court officials to refuse to perform gay marriage responsibilities because of their religious beliefs has become law in North Carolina.
The North Carolina House voted Thursday to override a veto of the measure that Republican Gov. Pat McCrory had earlier vetoed. The Senate voted to do the same a week ago.
Retention Elections Among 12 Bills Signed Into NC Law
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has signed a bill offering a new way for voters to decide whether to keep a state Supreme Court justice on the bench.
The "retention election" option was among 12 bills McCrory's office said Thursday he had signed into law. The governor also signed bills addressing graffiti vandalism, and exempting opossums from state wildlife laws around the new year, preserving Brasstown's New Year's Eve “Possum Drop.”

U.S. Mint To Launch Blue Ridge Parkway Quarters
The United States Mint will launch quarters honoring the Blue Ridge Parkway later this month.
The quarters are part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, which began in 2010.
