Gov. McCrory Blasts Fellow Republicans For Greensboro Bill

Gov. Pat McCrory says fellow Republicans in the Legislature didn't follow their conservative roots when they approved a bill changing the Greensboro City Council.

 

The bill passed last week draws new district maps for electing council members in North Carolina's third largest city.

McCrory told the News & Record of Greensboro that the conservative thing to do would have been to leave the redistricting to local representatives or the people.

Republicans at the General Assembly who once soured upon a foundation that used to get half of North Carolina's national tobacco settlement money may be coming around to embrace it, or at least accept it.

The Senate budget the chamber approved last month would give $20 million annually to the Golden LEAF Foundation after two years in which it received nothing.

North Carolina lawmakers are considering whether to have a state agency study whether zip lines in the state need to be regulated.

The bill was proposed after a 12-year-old girl died after falling 20 feet from a zip line at a summer camp in the North Carolina mountains last month.

UNC's 'Silent Sam' Confederate Statue Vandalized

Someone has spray painted "murderer" and "black lives matter" on the statue honoring Confederate veterans nicknamed "Silent Sam" at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Authorities say they are investigating the vandalism, which was discovered Sunday morning. No suspects have been identified or arrests made.

Boater Charged After 17-Year-Old Killed On Lake Norman

Authorities say a man has been arrested after the boat he was driving ran over and killed a 17-year-old girl on a kneeboard in Lake Norman.

Investigators said 49-year-old Keith Cerven was charged with boating while intoxicated and may face more charges after prosecutors review the case.
