Supreme Court Won't Revive North Carolina Abortion Law
The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from North Carolina to revive a requirement that abortion providers show and describe an ultrasound to the pregnant woman before she has an abortion.
The justices on Monday left in place an appeals court decision that said the 2011 North Carolina law was "ideological in intent" and violated doctors' free-speech rights.
NC Senate Republican Plan Spends Less Than House, Saves More
The Senate's version of the North Carolina budget spends less on operating government than the House proposal does, in part by putting aside more money for potential fiscal emergencies.

A trio of internationally known designers came to Winston-Salem Monday to pitch their ideas on a new look for the city's aged downtown bridges.
The suggestions come as the state Department of Transportation prepares to begin renovations on Business 40 next year.
The Creative Corridors Coalition wants the plans to include artistic elements for the roadwork to help give the highway a gateway appeal.
Fire ravages apartment building; 6 Injured, 29 Displaced
Residents of an apartment building in Winston-Salem are recovering after a fire ravaged their building.
Multiple news sources report six people were injured and 29 people were displaced when the fire broke out early Sunday night. A firefighter and Winston-Salem police officer were among those injured, but they have since been released from the hospital. One person is in critical condition.
Duke Adds Maryland Transfer Lexie Brown
Former Maryland guard Lexie Brown is transferring to Duke.
The Blue Devils on Monday announced the addition of Brown to the roster. She will sit out the upcoming season and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016-17.
The daughter of former NBA star Dee Brown said last month that she was leaving the Terrapins because she wanted to play closer to her home in Georgia.
