Moses Cone officials recommend the closing of Women's Clinic.
The Women's Hospital in Greensboro is facing possible closure. Moses Cone Hospital CEO Tim Rice told the Triad Business Journal Thursday that officials will recommend closing the Women's Hospital and moving its services to the hospital across town.
The recommendation comes after a year-long study involving employees, doctors and patients.
Rice says the decision will rest with the Cone Health Board of Trustees, who will be presented with the recommendations in late September. The board then may offer other options.
Rice says there are no immediate cost estimates and that construction could take years. A move date could be in 2019 if the board approves the changes.
The study also suggests moving outpatient services at Cone Behavioral Health Hospital near Benjamin Parkway and looking into other renovation possibilities.
The women's hospital opened in 1990. It was the state's first hospital devoted entirely to women and newborns.
