North Carolina could see more joblessness if the roads are not better maintained. The NC Chamber says politicians need to develop a strategy for funding transportation needs.
The N.C. Chamber's president and chief executive officer Lew Ebert said at a news conference Wednesday the state has no strategy to fund a $65 billion gap in transportation needs over the next 25 years. Ebert says the state is at a crisis point that jeopardizes its economy.
The Chamber handed out a report with proposed funding mechanisms, including tax increases, but Ebert says lawmakers must determine the best method.
The news conference came as the General Assembly convened its long session.
Gov. Pat McCrory has said he'll propose a bond of at least $1 billion for some road projects and offer funding options.
