Raleigh, NC -- (AP) North Carolina's unemployment rate took a sharp drop in November, falling to 7.4 percent and inching ever closer toward the national rate.
The Department of Commerce announced Friday the jobless rate fell from the 8 percent rate in October. The new rate is also the lowest in more than five years. The department says the number of people employed in North Carolina grew by 20,000 to more than 4.3 million. The new percentage accelerates an otherwise steady decline in unemployment in North Carolina that began in the summer. The July rate was 8.9 percent.
The national rate in November was 7 percent.
