A report from a science advisory panel says seas will rise along the North Carolina coast over the next 30 years. The question is how much?
The report by the science panel for the state Coastal Resources Commission gives estimates for sea-level rise using three scenarios.
Under the existing rate, estimates range from a mean of 2.4 inches at Southport to a mean of 5.4 inches at Duck.
Under the low greenhouse gas emissions rate, the low estimate is a mean of 5.8 inches at Wilmington and a high of 7.1 inches at Duck.
And under the high greenhouse gas emissions, the low estimate is a mean of 6.8 inches at Wilmington and a high of 8.1 inches at Duck.
Public comment is being accepted through Dec. 31.
