The Triad may lose more than 1,000 jobs.

The board of directors at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is working to reduce operating expenses by eight percent. Part of that translates into eliminating about 1,000 jobs. They hope to accomplish this in fiscal year 2014-2015, which begins July 1. Spokesman Mac Ingraham says the Medical Center needs to reduce expenses. "The Medical Center is deeply engaged in its annual budgeting process and is continuing to proactively address the challenge of declining reimbursement for health care services."

In 2012, Baptist Medical Center announced it would reduce costs by several hundred million dollars over four years. Hospital executives say in fiscal year 2015, the majority of these reductions will come from clinical operations, but expenses will be reduced in all Medical Center divisions. According to Ingraham, several hundred jobs have been cut and some employees have been strategically re-hired into other positions.

Baptist Medical Center has about 13,000 full and part-time employees, making it one of Forsyth County's largest employer.
