Police Investigate Winston-Salem's 5th Homicide of 2013

When Winston-Salem Police responded to the report of a traffic accident just before 5:30 Sunday evening, they found a crime scene instead.

Police arrived at North Cleveland Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, where they discovered 43-year-old Michael Denard Bruton in the driver's seat of a black Kia Sport Utility Vehicle.  Officers say he appeared to have been shot.  Emergency medical teams were called and Bruton was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Preliminary investigation indicated that the victim had been in a nearby parking lot when he was shot, but he continued driving on North Cleveland Avenue toward Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.  There, his SUV swerved off the road, hit a street sign and a tree stump before stopping. This is the fifth homicide of the year in Winston-Salem. No arrests have yet been made, and the investigation continues.
