Leslie Hummel is a community volunteer. A few years ago, she wanted to do more than just write a check to support American soldiers stationed overseas. While searching online, she discovered the Adopt A US Soldier program. It is a non-profit organization that connects civilians with deployed American troops. Since being matched up with a U.S. soldier, Hummel and her family have shipped many boxes filled with treats and encouraging messages to troops overseas.

Leslie describes to her friend, Heather Rompel, how this experience recently delivered an unexpected gift from Afghanistan to her home in Winston-Salem.
