Two hundred new jobs are coming to the Triad. United Furniture Industries will open a manufacturing and distribution plant in the historic Weeks plant in northeastern Winston-Salem.
United Furniture Industries is spending $5.2 million to expand into the plant on Hanes Mill Road. The new jobs will pay an average salary of $28,000 and bring a total payroll of more than $5.5 million into the Triad.
The Mississippi-based company has an exclusive U.S. license for Simmons upholstery and employs 940 people across four facilities throughout the Piedmont.
State officials approved up to $300,000 in performance-based incentives for the project, and Winston-Salem City Council and Forsyth County commissioners also approved up to $150,000 in incentives each, according to WXII News. The incentive grant requires local matching.
Hiring for the plant is expected to begin in mid-October and is run by Debbies' Staffing, a Winston-Salem based employment agency.
