It appears that North Carolina will remain without an auto plant. The state is out of the running for an anticipated Volvo factory. The News and Record reports that North Carolina was originally a top choice for Volvo to build a $500 million dollar factory, and had been actively campaigning to land the deal.
A new report says the finalists have been narrowed down to South Carolina and Georgia.
North Carolina had been especially eager to land an auto plant because it's the only Southern state without one.
The state had been considered a contender since the British Financial Times reported earlier this year it was among several Southern states in serious talks with the Swedish automaker.
Triad regional officials have been working to buy and develop 1,800 acres in an area of northeastern Randolph County that would be designed to recruit an auto plant.
