The president of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is stepping down.
Dr. Karen Barbara Carbone is the first female president of the center.
Wake Forest Baptist said Monday that she is stepping down from her post “to pursue other opportunities”. Carbone's resignation is effective April 1.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports the departure of Carbone is one of at least nine executive departures or promotions at the medical center in the last two months.
Carbone joined the center in March 2014 as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Dr. Kevin High, professor and chairman of internal medicine, will assume the responsibilities and will be the executive vice president of health system affairs.
Wake Forest Baptist says that it will no longer have the titles of president or chief operating officer for the clinical health system.
