The high winds and freezing temperatures over the weekend caused many issues throughout the region-- including at the North Carolina Zoo. The North Carolina Zoo is closed to the public until Wednesday because of weather related problems.
Officials said in a news release that the zoo was closed Sunday because of strong winds, freezing wind chills and fallen trees that blocked parking access for visitors. They say all animals and staff are safe and no exhibits or buildings were damaged.
The zoo will remain closed Monday and Tuesday because of a forecast for freezing rain and snow. The zoo is scheduled to reopen Wednesday.
