Work Set To Begin On New Winston-Salem Library

The design for Winston-Salem's new Central Library is complete. Crews are expected to start work on the new building by the beginning of August.

Architects have finished the design phase for the Central Library site on Fifth Street, and County Commissioners are expected to approve the plans today.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports the demolition phase is set to begin August 1^st, and the new 101,000-square-foot library is slated to be complete by the summer of 2017.

Forsyth County voters in 2010 approved $40 million dollars in bonds for library projects, including branches in Kernersville and Clemmons.

The Central Library project has a budget of $28 million dollars, with close to $2 million set aside for a technology center.

The three-story structure will sit farther back from the street than the current building, and will have more space for outdoor activities.
