Crews in Wilkes County are battling a large brush fire that broke out on Sunday, according to the Millers Creek Fire Department.
At around noon on Sunday, the brush fire was initially reported in the area of the 3800 block of Sheets Gap Road.
Officials estimated that the fire reached a minimum of 100 acres.
Six different fire departments responded to the blaze as well as the North Carolina Forest Service, Wilkes County EMS and Wilkes County Fire & Rescue.
Sgt. Lukas Blankenship with the Millers Creek FD reports that no structures have been damaged by the fire as of Sunday evening.
This is the second heavy fire of the weekend in Millers Creek. A mobile home caught fire on Saturday prompting a multiple agency response.
The forest service’s website lists a fire that took place near Sheets Gap Road among its recently reported incidents. It says the fire reached a size of 167 acres and has now been 100% contained.
