A foundation supporting engineering education has donated $11 million to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

The Washington, D.C.-based A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation is pledging strategic support for scholarships and learning initiatives at N.C. A&T.

The foundation first gave $1 million in 2020 to support students at risk of not graduating due to financial issues.

Now, the organization is extending its support with an additional $10 million contribution to help boost scholarships for first-year and transfer students, along with experiential learning opportunities.

University officials say the combined gifts amount to one of the largest endowments the school has ever received. According to a news release, N.C. A&T is the country’s largest producer of Black engineering graduates.

The N.C. A&T College of Engineering curriculum includes research in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, cybersecurity, sustainability and biomedical engineering.
