Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem, NC is hosting an exhibition of work by the great Dust Bowl and Depression-era photographer Dorothea Lange and some of her contemporaries. The exhibition includes Lange's famous “Migrant Mother” photo, perhaps the best known documentary photograph in the United States. Across the Blue Ridge collaborated with the museum in presenting a concert of Dust Bowl and Depression era songs. Guest performers were Dom Flemons, Alice Gerrard, Kay Justice and Terri McMurray. This week we hear excerpts from that event, plus historic recordings reflecting both hard times and hope. We hear a little about the biographical film “Dorothea Lange: Grab A Hunk Of Lightning”. And we get context and background on the music and on Dorothea Lange's career and remarkable talent. It's an exciting, multi-layered hour of music, history, and commentary.
