This week we take some time with the repertoire of early country music superstars The Carter Family. From their rural home in far southwest Virginia, the Carters – A.P., his wife Sara, and A.P.'s sister-in-law Maybelle – traveled to record at the 1927 Victor sessions in Bristol, Tennessee, where talent scout Ralph Peer grasped their potential for his developing industry. Today their songs live on, and we'll listen to a fine selection of the originals along with some newer interpretations. Included in the show: Flatt & Scruggs, Jim Watson, Ann Porcella, Carol Elizabeth Jones, Laurel Bliss, and Mac & Jenny Traynham. There could be many more, and we could listen to Carter Family songs for weeks. But this is a fine, fun start.
