The board of the Carolina Theatre of Greensboro has appointed a new executive director.

Allie Arpagian is leaving the High Point Arts Council to run the nearly century-old theater in downtown Greensboro.

Altina Layman, chair of the theater organization’s board, says Arpagian’s record as a community collaborator is one of the things that led to her hiring.

“Because she already has a lot of relationships in the arts community," she says. "And so we are really looking forward to continuing that path of partnering with other entities and organizations to really be a vibrant part of the cultural fabric in Greensboro, Guilford County and beyond.”

On social media, the High Point Arts Council praised Arpajian’s leadership in piloting the organization’s rebrand and bringing in innovative programming.

Arpajian will replace current executive director Brian Gray, who has been with the organization for almost 40 years.

Arpajian takes over the Carolina Theatre in September. Gray will stay on as director of transition until his retirement next year.
