Amy Helm performs on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. A singer, instrumentalist and songwriter, Helm had accumulated years of recording and touring experience before she embarked on a solo career in her 40s. Her father was Levon Helm, drummer and vocalist with The Band, and her mother was Libby Titus, a singer-songwriter whose songs had been recorded by artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt and Carly Simon.
In the early 2000s, Helm teamed up with like-minded New York roots musicians to form the popular group Ollabelle, all while helping organize her father's storied Midnight Ramble Concerts. When Levon Helm resumed touring, Amy was a member of his road band and, beginning with his Grammy-winning 2007 album Dirt Farmer, began co-producing his releases. She continues to host concerts at her late father's barn, and began working with a new group, Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers. Her solo debut, Didn't It Rain, was released in 2015, and earned her spots on the road with Mavis Staples and Patty Griffin. She's joined by Dan Littleton on lead guitar, along with drummer David Berger and bassist Byron Isaacs.
