Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may have the respect of her home state's largest newspaper, but she doesn't have its endorsement. The Anchorage Daily News announced on its Web site Sunday that it is endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
The Daily News commends the Republican vice presidential nominee for bringing broad attention and recognition to Alaska. But it says Obama brings more promise to the office of president than the Republicans. The paper, which has a daily circulation of 76,000, cites Obama's thoughtful analysis in a time of grave economic crises.
Despite the endorsement, the McCain-Palin camp is still predicting victory on Election Day.
Republican presidential nominee John McCain snagged his own endorsement from the Richmond Times Dispatch in Virginia. The paper, which boasts a daily circulation of 186,000, says McCain's experience makes him the clear and unambiguous choice for president.
On Sunday, McCain told NBC's Meet the Press that he is dismissing polls that show him trailing his opponent. "I think it's all about who can secure a better future," McCain said.
