This week the Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County announced more than $1 million in grant allocations for 2025.
The grant money will go to over 50 different organizations and individual artists in Forsyth County.
These include a mix of long-established cultural bastions like the Winston-Salem Symphony and smaller operations like the Shared Radiance Performing Arts Company.
The Arts Council's Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Development Katie Hall Nicolas said the organization works hard to meet its grant goals every year.
"The biggest challenge for us right now, as with many organizations in our community, is the decline of corporate support and also the decline of individual donations," Hall Nicolas said.
She added that the grant programs were restructured for 2025 to be more transparent. Out of that came three categories focused on general operational support, community and grassroots projects.
*Correction: This story has been updated. The original version of this article incorrectly stated the Arts Council's $1 million in grant allocations was lower than last year's. The $1.4 million referenced for last year in the original version referred to the combined sum of grant allocations and other contributions.
