A new assessment shows areas of strengths and weaknesses in Guilford County's services for those without homes.
Since 2022, more than $5 million in funding has supported investments in residential recovery, medical respite and 24/7 support for unhoused people among other things. But this came alongside conflicting priorities between agencies and a lack of transparency throughout the area's system of services.
That's according to a recent presentation to the Guilford County Homelessness Task Force. It focused on a study conducted by the Corporation for Supportive Housing.
The nonprofit group advocates for effective policies to better invest in communities.
Guilford County Board of Commissioners Chair Skip Alston says there now needs to be dedicated work on improving services.
"For the people out there, they're depending on us," Alston says. "We've been talking about it for a while. Now we got a blueprint."
No actions were taken, but Alston says the task force should move to monthly meetings to better address the problems presented.
