Baby Boomers Pick Mountains over Beaches

While the future of social security may be uncertain, some who are retiring now are forgoing southern beaches in favor of western mountains. Reports in recent days have noted a new trend in baby boomer retirement: they're choosing to settle in the West. Demographers are noting a flow of older people toward the Rocky Mountains. Places like Wyoming or Montana promise low crime, fresh air, and low traffic.

And fresh powder too. A program in Aspen called "Bumps for Boomers" claims to teach baby boomers how to handle skiing on fresh powder. It also covers mogul skiing, navigating steep slopes and hard bumps.
