Daniel Duckworth is the new police chief for the town of Boone.

Duckworth has served as interim chief since January and has more than a decade of experience with the Boone Police Department. He was officially named to the permanent position at Wednesday's town council meeting.

Duckworth said at the meeting he was humbled to be selected for the position.

"I just want to carry on the family culture that we have," he said. "And really, what makes the police department in this town so special, it's not any one individual, it's the group as a whole."

Duckworth has served in a number of roles during his time in law enforcement, including patrol officer and criminal investigations division commander. He holds degrees from Appalachian State University and East Tennessee State University.

Duckworth succeeds former Police Chief Andy LeBeau, who retired at the end of last year.
