Following the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, voters in downtown Boone shared their thoughts with WFDD’s David Ford and DJ Simmons.

Appalachian State University student Shawn Knock:

"It was definitely a step up from the last one. It seemed more coherent, thankfully. I'm not like a hater on Joe Biden, but he's just like an older guy, so having someone up there that was younger and coherent was nice."

Military retiree Peter Oliver:

"The vice president, she is up there saying, 'If I'm elected as president on day one, I'm gonna do this, this and this.' You've already been in office for three and a half years as vice president, why didn't you do something then? And then for President Trump? He did great. I wish he'd stay a little bit more on topic."

Appalachian State University staff member Vivian Thompson:

"She's understanding the conservative side. She's understanding the liberal side. She's understanding the vast majority of us who are right in the middle, and she is wanting to build together compromises, and that's the only way to do this. The country is divided. You cannot ramrod your way through half the population and get anything done."
