A judge in Bridgeport, Connecticut, today will be grappling with whether the manufacturer, distributor and seller of the gun used in the Sandy Hook massacre should be held liable for that shooting. A 2014 lawsuit is seeking damages from those companies, but the companies say that they are protected by a 2005 federal law that stops gun makers from being held liable for crimes committed with the weapons they sell.
