Catawba College has signed a five-year partnership agreement with all four U.S. Forest Service units in North Carolina. This includes approximately one million acres statewide in the Croatan, Nantahala, Pisgah, and Uwharrie National Forests.

School officials say this is a prime opportunity for students seeking careers with the Forest Service, the National Park Service, or other federal agencies.

Qualifying students may have access to Public Land Corps hiring authority, which can speed up the hiring process for those seeking federal employment.

Catawba College Assistant Professor Andrew Jacobson says the partnership can open doors to students in a variety of fields.

“I think what's been one of the coolest aspects of this is that this partnership has the ability to not just reach kind of traditional environmental, forestry, [and] botany students, but to reach students from across campus and from across all the disciplines," says Jacobson.

Catawba College is a four-year, private liberal arts school located in Salisbury.
