Cone Health announced in a press release in early January it had received a $7.5 million donation from the Bell Foundation.
Michelle Schneider, Cone’s chief philanthropy officer, said a large portion of the money will fund construction of the Steven D. Bell Family Heart and Vascular Center at Moses Cone Hospital.
The building is set to open in May.
The remaining money will go toward hiring a full-time researcher for the health system’s cardiovascular center.
"We have clinicians who are very, very passionate about this work and this gift is gonna allow them to take that passion and really work on it, wake up every day thinking about ‘what can Cone Health do,’ so that heart disease is not something that the next generation has to worry about," Schneider said.
The Bell Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Greensboro-based Bell Partners, a real estate investment and management company.
