The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is urging residents to take advantage of new Saturday hours at its Greensboro and Winston-Salem offices.

Weekday DMV appointments in the Triad area are typically booked up 90 days out – that’s one reason why the division decided to add Saturday service hours during the summer. But Marty Homan, with the DMV, says people just aren’t showing up for them.

“We've actually had to send employees home a little early, just because we did not have the volume of customers in the office that we were planning for," he says.

The DMV began offering the new service hours statewide on June 3. Homan says about half their offices are operating under capacity on Saturdays, including their Winston-Salem South and Greensboro East and West locations.

Appointments aren’t taken on Saturdays, but residents can check the DMV’s website for wait times before heading in. Offices are open from 8 a.m. until noon.

Saturday hours will end on August 26.
