Opponents of legislative changes to Greensboro's political maps have earned a victory - a federal court has found the law unconstitutional.
The law in question made Greensboro the only city in the state that could not change its own form of government. It also eliminated at-large council seats and changed the district lines.
Judge Catherine Eagles determined that those changes passed by the general assembly treat voters in Greensboro differently than those in other cities across the state. She also says the law did not serve any legitimate governmental purpose.
The News & Record of Greensboro reports that Judge Eagles will take action on the violations soon.
The 2015 bill was sponsored by Republican state Sen. Trudy Wade. City officials did not request the change.
