Two Triad workers on the front lines of the local response to COVID-19 have contracted the virus.

The CEO of the Second Harvest Foodbank of Northwest North Carolina, Eric Aft, is currently hospitalized with COVID-19. In a statement, Second Harvest officials said Aft began self-isolating as soon as he experienced symptoms.

The Greensboro Police Department also announced one of its officers has tested positive for the virus. The department says the officer is in quarantine and doing well.

Both organizations say they are taking steps to ensure the safety of employees during the pandemic.

The two join a list of North Carolina essential workers who have contracted COVID-19, which includes corrections officers, health care providers, and school staff members.

Last week, employees of the Davidson and Durham County school districts tested positive for the virus. Durham County has subsequently ended its food distribution program.
