The Forsyth County Public Library system has nearly a dozen events and programs scheduled to recognize Black History Month.
Many of the activities offered throughout February are designed to expose children and adults to Black literature, art and culture.
Youth Services Librarian Alisa Sanders is curating an 11-stop self-guided tour of Winston-Salem's Black history.
"Working in Winston-Salem, I’ve noticed that there is a rich amount of African American history so I thought it would be cool to create a map using the historical markers as a pointer for teens hoping that they could learn the history behind the markers and its significance," Sanders said.
As a newcomer to the city, Sanders said she would stop and read any historical marker she could, taking note along the way of the ones related to Black history.
Her tour includes stops at culturally significant schools, murals and a sit-in site.
