The process of getting a concealed handgun permit has changed in Forsyth County, and it's become a little more flexible.
Appointments are no longer necessary for residents looking to apply for concealed carry permits. While scheduling one is still an option, people can simply walk into the Public Safety Center during posted hours to submit their paperwork.
This comes after a period where the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office saw a backlog of requests for these and other gun permits.
Since the process changed, Chief Deputy Brad Stanley says there have been a few more visitors in the office than usual.
“We've had probably a 10 to 15 percent increase in the people that would be wanting to get permits. And that's okay. We're open to serve the public, to serve them, to get the permits that they need for their safety, or other reasons, collector, whatever the situation is.”
Stanley points out that while the appointment policy has changed, the steps to receiving a permit - including background checks - remain the same.
