Free Trade Fact-Check: NAFTA Becomes Campaign Issue

Criticism of free trade deals, such as the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA), continued on the campaign trail over the weekend.

Hillary Clinton told a crowd in Ohio that the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) doesn’t do enough to protect American autoworkers. She had supported it when she was secretary of state.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is airing an ad in Ohio that refers to 850,000 jobs lost under NAFTA, signed by Bill Clinton and negotiated by George H.W. Bush.

Donald Trump has said trade deals are “absolutely killing our country.” He wants to impose tariffs on imports from Mexico and China.
