The mother-son duo Madisen Ward & The Mama Bear isn't all sweet-natured charm; it's got impressive songs and powerful voices to match. The pair's debut album, Skeleton Crew, tells a powerful story with fully realized characters and places.

Take "Yellow Taxi," a song that feels like a happy sing-along, but is written from the perspective of a homeless man who'd slept in the backseat of a taxi the night before. There's a lot to love on Madisen Ward & The Mama Bear's impressive first record, so it was joy to watch the duo turn up in Boston.
