A Canadian furniture manufacturer is shutting down one of its home country facilities and shifting operations to North Carolina.

Prepac, a company that was founded in Vancouver in 1979, will close its plant in Delta, British Columbia. Those operations will be moved to its facility in the town of Whitsett.

According to Unifor, the union that represents Prepac workers, the move will terminate more than 170 Canadian jobs.

The union claims that tariffs are to blame. But Prepac officials have stated otherwise. CEO Nick Bozikis told Business in Vancouver that the Whitsett plant is better-positioned to supply its customer base in the eastern United States.
