North Carolina A&T University has teamed up with Google this semester with the goal of improving diversity in tech.

The Google in Residence program started five years ago, with one engineer heading to Howard University to teach a computer science course. Now, the program's grown to 13 schools.

David Foulser is a senior engineering manager with Google. He says they chose A&T in part because it's the largest producer of African-American engineering graduates in the country.

“Personally I was very excited to do this because I've been interviewing students for a couple of years for internship programs at Google," says Foulser. "And I wanted to increase my involvement in recruiting under-represented groups, and really in pushing opportunity to African-Americans, women and Latinx students.”

Foulser says Google has also been trying to increase diversity in tech through internships, hackathons and other programs available for those seeking careers in the industry.
