Gov. Stein announces programs to provide rural communities with fiber internet

Governor Josh Stein announced that more than $41 million will be invested in the Completing Access to Broadband program.

The projects will establish high-speed fiber internet connections for households and businesses across 17 counties, including Davidson, Wilkes and Caswell.

Stein says the program aims to expand economic opportunities in rural communities.

Out of the $41 million, $29 million will come from the American Rescue Plan Act signed by former President Joe Biden in 2021. The rest will be covered by broadband carriers like Brightspeed, Windstream and RiverStreet Networks.
