Governor Roy Cooper has signed bills authorizing a new North Carolina state park near Asheville. Three new state trails are also included in the legislation.

The Pisgah View State Park will be located in southwest Buncombe and Haywood counties. According to a press release, the 1,600-acre park will highlight views of Mount Pisgah and include trails, cliffs, coves and forested areas that are home to several rare plant and animal species.

Pisgah View will be the 40th state park in North Carolina.

The governor also signed bills allowing for the addition of three new state trails covering territory in Central and Western North Carolina.

Cooper said in a statement, “These new parks and trails will conserve important wildlife habitats and support North Carolina's flourishing outdoor recreation industry.”

The state park designation protects the areas from future development.
