The Greensboro City Council voted Friday to appoint Jamilla Pinder for a vacant at-large seat.

The move fills an opening on the Council left after the death of Yvonne Johnson last year. Pinder will now complete her term, which runs through the beginning of December.

Council voted 7-1 to appoint Pinder with Council Member Marikay Abuzuaiter voting against.

At a previous Council meeting, Pinder called building deep relationships her superpower and said she has a passion for data.

"I like to use that discovery and develop opportunities to create healthier and more thriving communities," she said.

Pinder has served on the Greensboro Transit Advisory Council and is currently the director of equity and community engagement for the Cone Health Foundation.

She'll be sworn in at a City Council meeting on Tuesday.
