Greensboro History Museum to hold 9th annual Lunar New Year Celebration

The Greensboro History Museum is inviting residents to usher in The Year of the Snake, which started on Wednesday, Jan. 29, the first day of the Lunar New Year. 

Guests will be treated to live music, performances and hands-on activities by groups like the Greensboro Chinese Association, the UNC Asian American Center and the Taiwanese Association of America-North Carolina. 

Carol Ghiorsi Hart is the museum’s director. She said the Lunar New Year celebration quickly outgrew her expectations both in attendance and scale since it was first put on in 2017. 

"The first year I think we probably had maybe 200, which would have been a great number for us," Hart said. "But last year we had 900 people; we were spilling outside our door," she said. "It just shows us how interested our community is in learning about this tradition and the history of immigrants into our community. "

The community celebration will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Greensboro History Museum on Summit Avenue.
