Greensboro is launching a new program to help develop and mentor young artists.
The Neighborhood Arts: Next Up program will connect professional artists with creative youth to come up with a digital design for bus shelters in the city.
Creative Greensboro's Chief Creative Economy Officer Jocquelyn Boone says pairing the raw talent of local young people with an experienced mentor can produce something special.
"That can be exciting, you know, to have that young voice in the conversation because it also engages them and allows them to build upon their own agency, and it lets them know that we want their vision for the city," she says.
Three teams will be selected and paid $2,800 to host two neighborhood-based activities with residents, and create digital designs inspired by what they learn.
The inaugural bus shelters for the program will be in Dudley Heights, Glenwood and Kings Forest neighborhoods.
Creative Greensboro will reproduce and install the digital designs in the fall.
The deadline to apply for the program is April 30.
